Jogging,
walking, shell collecting and swimming
You will find kilometres of safe, wide open beaches for this purpose.
Swimming is safe with very pleasant water temperatures that reach up to 29°C
in summer. Various tidal pools offer excellent warm, safe and carefree splashing
and snorkelling for young children.
Snorkelling
Can be done from the shore or from boat where various shallow reefs can be
accessed.
Scuba diving
A couple of fully equipped dive centres with all necessary facilities are in
operation at Barra. Excellent reefs with dive depths that vary from 8 metres to
30 metres offer a variety of diving experiences. Huge mantas and whale sharks
are commonly seen along with a variety of reef fish.
Deep-sea
fishing
This area is famous for its excellent fishing and hosts several fishing
competitions. A huge diversity of game fish abound including king mackerel,
wahoo, dorado, kingfish, yellow fin tuna, greater barracuda, sailfish and
marlin. Launching is smooth and easy as surf is very rare. A number of charters
are available if needed.
Spear fishing
Some outstanding fish are speared here regularly such as king mackerel,
ignobilis, wahoo and even sailfish and marlin.
Water
sports
The calm bay and the lagoon are ideal for paddle skiing, kayaking, windsurfing,
skiing, parasailing and jet skiing.

Dhow trips
“Charter” a dhow and take the family across Inhambane bay to enjoy lunch at
Maxixe. This is a very popular pastime with visitors.
